Protecting a Road from a Landslide
In this Small Group Investigation, students acted as engineers to design a way to protect a road from a landslide. Working in teams, the groups discussed how to protect the road: what were possible solutions, what materials will they should use, etc.
In this investigation students:
In this investigation students:
- Observed the effects of a landslide on a road.
- Defined a problem to be solved by a design to protect a road from landslides.
- Designed a solution to an engineering problem and found different ways to use materials to solve the problem.
- Tested the designs and compared strengths and weaknesses of each design.
- Compared models designed to prevent water from changing the shape of the land.
